view from the Creative Growth studio:
handwritten words chair in progress

Getting ready for upcoming TEXTile opening
Written by Laura Jo Pierce and sewn by many. A little more work on the chair
still to go, but everyone worked REALLY HARD today. Isn't this piece amazing?!?

Thinking I should cover my couch like this @ home. . .

TELLUS scrap earrings

TELLUS scrap earrings: featuring zero-dye color-grown green
cotton (left) and oak gall grey (right) with wool

Emerging from a pile of small scraps of color-grown cotton fabrics, too small to be sewn yet saved. These small scraps are precious since we no longer have a regional mill to process the organic locally grown cotton like the color-grown cotton fibers from Sally Fox’s farm. For now these small scraps are all that remain of locally grown and locally processed cotton fabrics. After visiting Sally's farm one afternoon, I retuned to the studio with this small pile of these scraps inspired to craft a small limited-edition collection to celebrate and share the color-grown cotton’s beauty with dreams of building a local cotton mill to process these local fibers once again . . .

today's natural dye pallet :
red cabbage  + oak galls on raw silk
By modifying the red cabbage dye bath with vinegar warm purples were revealed. The cooler blue-cast purple was created by adding salt to the dye bath. Intrigued by the red cabbage color range, even if it is only temporary - A great non-toxic natural dye for working with kids.
