wrapped bangles featured on Ecco* Eco

Wanted to send a big thank you out Abigail of Ecco* Eco for including my wrapped bangles on her blog today. What a nice way to start the day! For those of you unfamiliar with Ecco* Eco, be sure to make a visit, Abigail has a beautiful sense of style in the collection she curates and an eye on sustainable design.

Featuring local colors and fibers, each wrapped bangle is unique, hand-wrapped highlighting locally harvested natural dye color based on the season's offerings. You can pick up a set of wrapped bangles at the Fibershed Marketplace. 10% of each sale will be donated toward building a solar-powered, farm-based mill in Northern California.

pom-pom underwear

Pom-Pom underwear created by Ruth Stafford! Ruth is one of the artists in the collective at Creative Growth and I am quiet fond of her embellished pieces. These are a hoot! Snapshot from backstage at Creative Growth's Beyond Tend runway show.

photo shoot at Tara Firma Farms

A little behind the scenes glimpse from today's Fibershed photo shoot at Tara Firma Farms in Petaluma. New hand-knit garments and knit-kits featuring locally grown fibers and natural dyes will soon be available on the Fibershed Marketplace. The dresses designed by Heidi Iverson are jaw dropping.

Tara Firma Farms is full of lots of baby pigs and little chicks. You should make time for a visit, they're so darn cute and everyone at the farm is super nice. There goats followed us around all day and even climbed a tree. What gorgeous weather, we lucked out in between the rain this week

The Challenges & Rewards of Local Production: article on Etsy

Designer/Seamstress: Mali Mrozinski
Felt Artist: Katherine Jolda
Commissioned by Karen Brown, Creative Director of the Center of Ecoliteracy

Have you seen the recent article on Esty by Karen Brown about the hand felted jacket recently commissioned from two of our local Fibershed artisans Mali Mrozinski and Katherine Jolda? If not, go  check it out, I'll wait. . . Isn't the jacket gorgeous?

Karen tackles the difficulty of untangling the economics and emotions of purchasing an artisan design produced from locally sourced raw materials. Exploring the meaning and impact of such a purchase by highlighting each phase of the process and in terms of the value of each person’s contribution in the jacket's creation. Inspired by our 150 mile Fibershed Wardrobe Project, Karen excitedly set out on her own journey following the development of her jacket from meeting the farmer and animal that produced the fibers to understanding each step of the process of transforming the raw fiber into fabric and becoming a jacket designed just for her. Her article begins to asks us to face the dilemma between what we expect to pay as buyers and what we want to be paid as makers – it’s not an easy conversation but an important one.

Excited to share with you some of the new organic bedding that I've been working on for Spring. Layers of woven textures combined in neutral tones of creams and greys with a little vibrant punch of tangerine. Versatile classics like linen, seersucker and pintucked percale with an unexpected splash of adventure by adding "a little something picked up from one of your travels" in this new duvet cover (sssssh. . . we won't tell). A sophisticated cozy combination sure to bring warmth into your home.
